The capital city
The emirate of Abu Dhabi occupies over 85% of the total area
of the UAE. The capital city is located at the head of a T-shaped
island protruding into the Gulf. One of the most modern cities
in the world, Abu Dhabi sports modern buildings and sky scrapers
that are among the finest in the Middle East. It is not only
the centre of government and business, but the node of diplomatic
activities and oil operating companies in the country.
The long coastline of the emirate was once the world's most
popular pearling destinations. The boundaries of the emirate
extend to the oases of Liwa in the south where some of the world’s
largest sand dunes can be found, and to the oasis of Al Ain
in the east.
Abu Dhabi has large gardens and parks, tree-lined avenues, sophisticated
buildings, modern communication systems and efficient transport
network, international luxury hotel chains, vast shopping malls
and cultural events all of which offer visitors a unique experience.
