The land of natural springs
The northern most emirate of the UAE, Ras
Al Khaimah too has a rich history. Archeological excavations
reveal the ancient existence of an advanced civilization that
had trade relations with the Indian sub-continent. Later records
show that the town of Ras Al Khaimah , then known as Julfar,
belonged to early Muslim Caliphs.
Green, fertile and surrounded by lofty mountains, this emirate
has a long coastline and is famous for its natural springs and
valleys. Therefore, its traditional occupations have been mainly
fishing, trading and agriculture; which are now heavily modernized.
The modern agricultural farm at Digdagga supplies fruits, vegetables,
milk and poultry to the other emirates from here. The sea around
the emirate abounds in tuna fish; while its mountains are a
source of stone quarries and a cement factory.
The deepwater port of Mina Saqr contributes considerably to
trade through heavily utilised bulk handling facilities that
enable low cost general cargo and container handling.
